What do I think will be my biggest challenge at my internship?

Although I am an intern with the OneDrive SharePoint organization, my internship project largely contributes to Android and iOS versions of Microsoft Teams. I think my biggest challenge at the internship will be finding contacts in Microsoft Teams, which is a completely different organization from OneDrive SharePoint, to ask questions about my project. Few of the engineers on my OneDrive SharePoint team have worked on Mobile application development, with none working on Microsoft Teams phone application clients. This is frightening because it means I will not have direct contacts within my team to ask questions relating to the Android or iOS application development part of my project. This will require building connections in the Microsoft Teams organization that I can reach out to with application development questions. On Wednesday, I looked at the organizational chart to see if there are software engineers who develop for the Android and iOS clients of Microsoft Teams. I note...

My initial reactions to my internship exerience

The first week of my internship mainly comprised of setting up my development machine, orientation meetings, and learning about the project requirements. There we over one thousand interns welcomed to Microsoft this week. One exciting aspect of such a large cohort was physically meeting some of the interns I had remotely met during the previous internships. Although I tend to be more reserved when I meet new people, it was interesting how I pushed myself to start conversations with different interns at the orientation meeting. One session of the orientation comprised of past Microsoft interns sharing advice with first-time interns. I was courageous to share advice on how to have a successful internship experience with other interns. This was a sign of the growth in my communication and public speaking skills I have obtained from my Lead Teaching Assistant position at Berea. I think back to how I would never have attempted to speak in such a large group during my first and second...

One of my goals for the internship

Image
My first day as a Software engineering intern at Microsoft  This is my first week as a Software Engineering intern with the OneDrive and SharePoint team. I am in the orientation and setup phase of the internship where I attend different intern orientation sessions along-side setting up my development machine. One of my internship goals is to apply Computer Science concepts to build an end-to-end product that I will ship from development to production. This is my third internship with Microsoft. Unlike the previous internships where I worked in teams of at least three interns, this will be my first time working on an entire project alone; alone in a sense that I will be the only software engineer directly contributing to the project. Working on an end-to-end project in an internship alone is both exciting and frightening. I am excited to measure all the software development skills that I have acquired through the in and out of class projects at Berea College and in my previous in...
